Youth will be able to participate in both the Alpine Giant Slalom and Ski Cross at Big White Ski Resort. Each city may enter a maximum number of 4 girls and 4 boys and a minimum of 2 for this exciting event!

Cross Country Skiing

The Telemark in beautiful West Kelowna will host the cross country ski teams. Participating cities may enter teams to compete in 3.5 km Classic Technique, 3.5 km Free Technique and 3.5 km Free Technique Relays.

Curling

Kelowna is excited to offer 2011 athletes the chance to participate in the largest game of chess - on ice! Curling is a popular Canadian sport where two teams of four players take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones across the ice curling sheet towards the house, a circular target marked on the ice.

Figure Skating

Kelowna's figure skating events will consist of both a short program (maximum 2.5 minutes) and a freestyle program. Girls and boys can participate in this exciting event which will also feature a gala of all skaters on the final day!

Hockey

For the first time in ICG history, the winter games will include Canada's favourite pastime, ice hockey! Kelowna is excited to host a boys and girls hockey tournament for the 2011 International Children's Winter Games.

Speed Skating
Speed Skating

Short track speed skaters will compete in 500 metre and 1500 metre races, as well as 2000 or 3000 metre relays. Only relay teams can consist of both boys and girls in one mixed team of four participants.

Snowboarding
Snowboarding

Big White Ski Resort will host the Kelowna 2011 snowboarding events. Snowboarders will be able to compete in both Slopestyle and Snowcross events! Big White Ski Resort is located in the Okanagan Valley, just 56 km from the city of Kelowna. It is blessed with sunny weather, dry powder and a mild average temperature of -5C (23F).
