The International Children’s Winter Games will be held during January 26-31, 2011 in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada and are expected to bring together athletes and coaches from cities around the world. The Games aim to enable, develop and advance the meeting, understanding and friendship of students from different countries around the world and promote the Olympic Ideal.
A celebration of children's sports, the Games, calls youth from all over the world to meet each other and become friends in the context of a sports event held exclusively for them. Kelowna will host international youth, age 12 to 15, for a week of fun-filled games, sporting events, festivals, and more. The event puts emphasis on sporting ideals, respect, and understanding different cultures and ways of thinking. The aim of the Games is not to win but to create strong bonds of friendship and solidarity between young athletes from all over the world.
Up to 1,000 volunteers will be needed from January 26-31, 2011 to form the backbone of the Kelowna 2011 International Children's Winter Games. From IT Services to Transportation to Athlete Village Operations there’s something for everyone, and we’re recruiting now.
To truly meet the objective of the Games, the City of Kelowna has chosen billeting as our method of providing accommodation for the athletes , coaches and head of delegation from visiting cities. Residents of Kelowna will open their homes and host the participants in these games.
Kelowna is pleased to offer ice hockey for the first time in ICG history! Athletes will also have the opportunity to participate in Short Track Speed Skating, Curling, Cross Country Skiing, Snowboarding (Slopestyle and Snowcross), Alpine Skiing (Giant Slalom and Ski Cross), and Figure Skating.
The Games will bring together athletes and coaches from cities around the world to Canada connecting lives and communities. In keeping with the International Children’s Statues and mission, the Games will enable, develop and advance the meeting, understanding and friendship of young athletes from different countries around the world and promote the Olympic Ideal. This is the first International Children’s Winter Games to be held in North America.
